THE LAW
By the 1st January 2027,
all Queensland homes must have the following:
  • Photoelectric only

    (Ionisation alarms are no longer permitted).
  • Interconnected

    So that when one alarm activates, they all sound.
  • Installed in the right locations

    Correctly installed in every bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms, and on each storey.
  • Compliant with Australian Standards

    AS 3786-2014 legislative requirements.
  • Approved power source

    Either 240V hard-wired with backup batteries or 10-year lithium-powered sealed units.
